Living in Southern California, I don’t know how I’ve never heard of The Flower Fields prior to this year. It’s straight out of a scene from my favorite movie, Big Fish, where Edward Bloom is standing in the field of daffodils trying to win over the girl he loves. It’s absolutely dreamy and of course I had to go!
It’s located in Carlsbad, which is about an hour and a half south of Los Angeles, so I made it a little Saturday morning road trip with two of my friends, Tina and Gabby. We grabbed some coffee and headed south early in the morning.
Since it was a Saturday, it was a little packed but if you walk the entire fields, you can find plenty of more desolate areas to take photos as if you were the only people there.
The colors are to die for and on a beautiful day like we had, it’s so peaceful to walk the entire grounds. I would say go with the intention of staying a couple hours so you can walk the entire length of the fields and enjoy the scenery. If you aren’t up for the walk, they also have wagon rides that go around the entire grounds.
Near the entrance they have stands with snacks such as ice cream and strawberry shortcake. They also have various events going on throughout the season and you can check out the calendar on their website.
On my way out I picked up a few plants for the house at the Armstrong Garden Center. While there is no restaurant on the premises, there are plenty of places in the surrounding area where you can grab a bit to eat. We chose to stop at the Karl Strauss Brewery for lunch before hitting the road.
The season ends Mother’s Day weekend, so if you are looking to go now is the time! Let me know in the comments below if you were lucky enough to make it there this year.
