5 Verses For When You Need Encouragement

5 Verses For When You Need Encouragement

I think it’s safe to say we all need a little encouragement at different points in our life. Sometimes the community of family and friends we have around us are able to pour that encouragement into us. Other times that’s not enough or we find ourselves struggling with things on our own. Thankfully God’s Word is always available for us to find encouragement in.

While I do have faith that I am walking in God’s purpose for me, there are times when I feel like the enemy is creeping in to try to convince me otherwise. When I find myself in the midst of those situations, I turn to these verses for encouragement.

“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
Philippians 4:13 NLT

I think this is one a lot of us go to when we need encouragement. It is one of my favorites when I’m not feeling capable of what is in front of me. Our purpose in Christ isn’t about what we can do but what God can do through us. If you have days where you feel like you aren’t capable of your calling, just remember that God will give you what you need to do what He has called you to do.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Romans 12:12 NIV

For me this verse embodies what it is like walking in your purpose. There are days I can see so much potential placed before me that I am filled with joy and hope in the future God has for me. But that does not mean there aren’t obstacles that I face in my journey. That is when I need God even more and lean even more into my prayer life. It is inevitable that you will go through ups and downs while walking in your purpose. But God is always there to hear your hopes and dreams as well as your afflictions.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 NIV

If you’re like me, you may push yourself until you hit a breaking point. I’ll get so excited and passionate about something I’m working on, that I end up burning out. This verse is a reminder that it is okay to take time to rest. Your calling is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself.

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
Philippians 1:6 NLT

You aren’t in this alone. God has called you to your purpose and is right there with you and working through you. The purpose God has given you will be successful when you allow Him to lead you. God began that work in you by giving you a desire in your heart for whatever He has called you to, and He will see it fulfilled. Sometimes we just need to give the timing of it over to God.

“That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.”
2 Corinthians 4:16 NLT

Be encouraged that when you go through seasons of feeling down, incapable, or weary while walking in your purpose, God is there renewing you. Seek Him out for the strength and encouragement you need to continue what He has placed in you. The world may try to crush the hopes and dreams God has placed in you, but we can do all things through Him!

I hope that whatever season you are in, you find encouragement in these verses. If you have a go to verse of encouragement of your own, please share it below!
